Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '99. Wear sunscreen. If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh, nevermind, you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now, how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are NOT as fat as you imagine. Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindsides you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday. Do one thing everyday that scares you. Sing. Don't be reckless with other peoples hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours. Floss. Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself. Remember compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements. Stretch. Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't. Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone. Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40. Maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either - your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Dance. Even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room. Read the directions, even if you don't follow them. Do NOT read beauty magazines they will only make you feel UGLY. [Brother and sister together we'll make it through. Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there. I know you've been hurting, but I've been waiting to be there for you. And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can.] Get to know your parents, you never know when they will be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; They're your best link to your past, and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but with the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young. Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but, leave before it makes you soft. Travel. Accept certain inalienable truths. Prices will rise, Politicians will philander, you too will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders. Respect your elders. Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you'll have a trust fund, maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out. Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85. Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia; dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than it's worth. sake sushi funan branch - monday 7 August 2006

i know that this is a really late post, but it serves as an update on my makan adventures. :) geez.. im so behind in updating my photos.

i remember suggesting having japanese food for dinner so dad mum and i (hmm.. i cant remember why poppit couldnt join us that day) went to the nearby funan digital IT mall's sake sushi outlet. sake sushi because it was nearby and also to take advantage of the $1 credit card promotion* Terms and conditions apply! it was our first visit to the funan branch and i think the decor for the teppanyaki section was quite nice. we were tempted to heck the promo and opt for teppanyaki instead. the funan branch even offered a vegetarian menu with special discounts on the 1st (chu yi) and 15th (shi wu) day of the lunar calendar which i found to be particularly amusing. i was like imagining all the monks and nuns and people who chi zai (translated from chinese = eat vegetarian food) flooding to sake sushi on chu yi/shi wu just to enjoy the promotion. haha.. maybe they can have corporate temple discounts as well! haha.. yes.. i know i have really childish thoughts. :D couldnt stop reiterating my amusement to mum and dad the whole evening and mum JUST had to tell the waitress how much im "in love" with their vegetarian menu lar. walau -__-'' haha.. anyway besides the promo meal, we ordered some sides. while waiting for our food, mum and dad happily helped themselves with the sushi passing them on the conveyor belt (bad choice to let them sit on the side near the conveyor belt!). i was telling them how bo hua it was to eat sushi from the conveyor belt (better when you're going for sushi buffet and not ala carte, considering the price and standard of the sushi) and suggested to order some of their specialities from the menu instead. but they JUST wont listen and continued picking the plates of sushi off the conveyor belt like naughty, hungy, little hansel and grettle. it was damn funny i tell you! especially the way they looked at me (guilty but with a tint of rebellion) whenever i "squealed" each time they took something off the conveyor belt! hahaha.. classic man! but i was so close to spanking their hands lar.. hahaha.. someone observing us from a distance (who is unaware of my kind intentions) will probably label me as some bu xiao zi or something.. haha.. anyway we had a good time "fooling around" with each other while having a pretty decent meal :) teppanyaki and vegetarian menu are a must-try the next time!

a moment of senseless emotional outburst

have you ever had this feeling of dilemmatic agony when you dont know if you should tell a particular someone how you really feel because you fear jeopardizing the relationship that the both of you share, even if it isnt a close one.

sensitive new-age guy?! my foot

there are some things i really cant stand in a guy!!!

1. he talks in that irrititaing, fake-o "oh-i-SO-can-speak-darn-good-english" way

2. he pronounces his words syllable by syllable to further promote his "darn good english"

3. he ALWAYS "volunteers" to do this or answer that, all the time assuming that disgusting pretentious look as if he's doing it out of kind intentions when he actually wants to steal the limelight for himself

4. he acts all nice and prim and proper in front of everybody, but only chooses to hang out/hook up with the "girly-girls"

5. he thinks he is damn good looking and that he has THE sporty look. maybe he even thinks he has a good bod! but seriously, if there's any sanity left in him, he would never dare think of his short, skinny frame in that way.

ok. i guess it's obvious i was only referring to a particular HIM whom i VERY UNFORTUNATELY got acquainted with recently.

jesus! is there any humility left in that man?!?

he really rubbed me the wrong way since the day i knew of his existence. whatever followed only made me think worse of his character. at this point in time, there is no one that i can think of who irks me more than him.

no... not even that sickening ass who bumped me aside to reach for the free mooncake sample! *poof*
